When women & non-binary filmmakers are better represented behind the scenes, they’re better reflected on the screen. That’s why Reel Stories is training the next generation of empowered filmmakers.

For 10 years Reel Stories has been leading the charge to close the gender gap in the film industry by connecting young filmmakers with professionals in the film industry. At Reel Stories young women and non-binary folks learn the skills, get the connections and make films to set them up for success in the film industry. We believe that the power of individual stories brought to life on-screen has the power to diversify and strengthen the filmmaking industry – Join us this summer to show the world your stories. Your audience is waiting!

During this two week filmmaking program 12-18 year old young women and non-binary youth work together in small, collaborative groups to write, shoot, edit and distribute their own short films. These future filmmakers will get to learn from award winning and professional filmmakers. We are currently planning for all days to be IN-PERSON.

Reel Stories Filmmaking Institute

For our most advanced and experienced filmmakers ages 15-24 years old. Program is for women and non-binary filmmakers.

The Reel Stories Filmmaking Institute mirrors a professional production with dedicated media teachers and professionals to mentor filmmakers. Institute participants attend career lunchtime talks, with additional time to network with professionals.

This program is not just another version of the advanced program – it’s rigorous and meant for our previous filmmakers looking for a professional experience to create portfolio level media. It also offers ongoing filmmaking and creative opportunities beyond the scope of the two-week program, more opportunity for creative feedback, longer-form projects, and deeper opportunities to network with professionals.

Thank you for all your hard work! Grace truly enjoyed the entire experience, and she got the opportunity to expand her skills working on a different genre of film. Her self confidence grew because of the camp and she continues to learn how to work with all different kinds of people. Grace will continue to be a part of Reel Stories for a long time to come!
