Virtual Programs

When women & girls are better represented behind the scenes, they’re better reflected on the screen. That’s why Reel Stories is training the next generation of female filmmakers. During shelter- in- place, we’ve been hosting weekly virtual filmmaking programs/events & conducted our 1st ever virtual summer program to further support our community.

Below is Reel Stories ongoing list of Fall 2020 Virtual Programs.

Mobile Media Filmmaking!

December 13, 2020 11AM – 2PM PST

Open to: Female & Non-binary creators 12-24 years

As art-making, technology and creative spaces have changed throughout this last year due to COVID, many emerging filmmakers are continuing to make creative work while traveling light by just using their smartphones.

This workshop will provide a creative space to learn and practice mobile apps and tools commonly used by media makers working primarily from their phones. We’ll practice with short tutorials, and take time to each make an experimental short film to share. This course is more important now than ever, since we need diverse voices to take up space and tell stories during this historical time.

Tools will be based on the iOS platform (if needed, phones are available local to Oakland for the workshop)

Thank you for all your hard work! Grace truly enjoyed the entire experience, and she got the opportunity to expand her skills working on a different genre of film. Her self confidence grew because of the camp and she continues to learn how to work with all different kinds of people. Grace will continue to be a part of Reel Stories for a long time to come!
